if all in the same book, they have a common theme, goal, or idea to tie them together

Find Something New About Genre:
usually falls between 2,000 to 10,000 words
covers a range of topics and genres, since you could have short stories written in poetic form
normally only one single event, not a lot leading up to it or after it
famous/popular short story authors include: Edgar Allen Poe, Washington Irving (Sleepy Hollow), F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Stephen King
